    Good Things

I am blessed.  I recently celebrated a birthday, and in the midst of everthing I looked at my life and realized how fortunate I truly am.  I have a devoted husband who loves me, I have a family that calls me to say they love me, I have my close friends, friendly acquaintances, excellent studets and so much more.

I have to tell you one of the best things I get for my birthday - every year - my mom calls and sings to me on the phone.  She can't carry a tune, but I love for her to sing me happy birthday.  She came to my house and woke me up, then had to leave fairly quickly, but later that afternoon she called and sang to me.  I love it.   I was teaching at the time, and the kids could hear her on the phone.  The boys gave me perplexed looks, but I just had this big dumb grin from ear to ear... my momma was signing to me.  I guess it's the little things in life that we love the most.  I am thankful.

Have a great day!  Don't forget that there are people out there that love you very much!

    Needy

    Things I hear people say:

    I need a new car.

    I need a new house.

    I need…. I need… I need…

What is it to really need? What is it to need a pair of pants? What is it to need something to eat? What is it to need a place to sleep? There is a big difference between need and want. Everyone wants something; we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t want to improve our quality of life or our quality of circumstances.

It’s a shame that some people don’t know how to get what they need. It’s a shame that people only think about the “needy” around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, the need is great around the holidays, but what about the rest of the year? There are people out there who need – food, clothes, furniture, and homes – all year long. Most of the time people end up in these situations by accident.

People are very proud and do not want to ask for help. It’s when circumstances get to their lowest that they will finally say, “Can you please help me?”

I’ve been needy. When I was young, my family fell into unfortunate circumstances, and as a growing young person, I didn’t always have proper clothes and my parents on occasion couldn’t afford to buy groceries. We were fortunate; we had family that helped us out. They provided food, clothes, and on one occasion a pair of glasses.

People deserve to be happy no matter what their circumstance, no matter what holiday is or is not around.
