October 29 How Not To Heat A SandwichI went with some coworkers to a computer conference in Texas. It was a very brain frying sort of conference. The two day class was spent learning so much stuff that by the time we got back to the hotel room I could barely remember my name, my eyes were glazed over and I probably could have been content staring at a wall with drool dripping from my mouth. We were so exhausted that we didn't do anything but go to class and return to the room. I learned a lot, but man, it was overwhelming. So, I left the man to fend for himself for a few days. Nothing would go wrong, right? lol We were on the way home and I had just hung up from talking to the man and my phone rang again. It was him. I answered it and he begins telling me that he caught the microwave on fire. (This is approximately how the conversation went.)
Me: What?! Him: I sorta caught the microwave on fire. Me: You okay? Him: Yeah, I'm fine. Me: Is the microwave toast? Him: No. Me: (laughing) What happened? Him: Well, I was reheating my Arby's sandwich and I turned away for just a second and I heard something and I looked in the microwave and there was this flame... Me: An actual flame? Him: Yeah. It was weird there was a flame and sparks and stuff. Me: Oh my gosh! Wait, you left it on the foil paper? Him: Yeah, I wasn't thinking. It was paper. Me: So then what happened? Him: I blew out the fire. It took a few breaths. Then ashes went everywhere. Me: (giggling) So what did you end up eating for lunch? Him: The sandwich.
When I returned home the only evidence is a small mark in the microwave that will ever serve as a reminder not to reheat foil wrapped sandwiches in the microwave. Oh yeah, and when I warmed up something this morning, ashes seem to be coming from nowhere even though the microwave has been cleaned numerous times. *smiles* I only left him alone for a few days. October 04 KoreansMy kids all went back to Korea in June. I miss them very much. My life seems so quiet without having to run to and fro doing things for them or with them. I have had the great pleasure of web tutoring one of my families. I am enjoying that very much. It’s not the same, but it’s nice. It’s nice to get to see them and hear their voices. Today was interesting. The man and I were watching a movie, and my cell phone rang. It was one of the other Korean families… they got a webcam! Now I will be tutoring them too! After I got off the phone with them we had our first class on the webcam and it was so much fun. They were so excited to be able to talk and be seen that they were pushing each other around to try and get the headset so they could talk. It was very cute. It’s only been a few months and yet I can see changes in their appearance. Oddly enough during their class my cell phone rang. I was surprised as I do not get many calls on my phone. I didn’t recognize the number so I asked the man to take the call for me. When I was done with class I asked him who it was… he said he didn’t know, but they sounded Korean. All of my students are in Korea, so I didn’t understand who would be calling. Well, apparently a lady has moved to the area and would like a class once a week and she got my number from one of the families who returned to Korea (not one that I’m currently tutoring). How neat is that? In one day I go from having one family (two students) to having three families (five students). I am so absolutely ecstatic I could dance on the ceiling. I might be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or something. |
