16 October 101 Things I saw this on a few other websites and thought I'd give it a try.
- I am deeply in love with my husband.
- He is the only man I have ever dated.
- We didn’t start dating until after high school, and we married a week after I graduated from college.
- I was born in Arizona.
- I am short. Five feet tall to be exact, and proud of all five of those precious feet.
- Speaking of feet, I have small feet. I wear children’s shoes, somewhere between a 2.5 and 3.5. I find it very difficult to wear adult shoes. I can occasionally get into a size 5 women’s, but there is much toe-stuffing going on, and heels – FORGET IT.
- I once pierced a grown man’s ear with a fishhook. No, he did not ask me to do it, it just sort of happened as I was casting my line. I believe he left it.
- I have worked since I was 14. I have had more than one job at a time most of my life. I have held as many as five jobs at one time.
- I like to sit on the floor.
- I moved out of my parent’s house when I was 15. I can proudly say that my parents have both grown up a lot in the last few years.
- I have one blue eye and one green eye, and yes, it freaks people out. I cannot see much out of the blue eye. I was teased A LOT when I was a kid. Small children come up to me and ask questions much to their parents’ dismay, but I don’t mind.
- I love children; I would like to have some one-day.
- I am a Christian. Non-denominational – Full Gospel.
- I love to sing. I sing in the shower and in the car. I have never sung in front of anyone so I don’t know if I can carry a tune or not. I’m too big a chicken to find out.
- I love computers.
- I hate computers.
- I love to take pictures. Children are my favorite subjects. I also like doing documentary photography.
- I do not like the texture of oranges and therefore do not eat them.
- I have worked in radio since 1994. I can talk on the air with complete strangers with no problem. I cannot, however, leave a coherent message on someone’s answering machine or voice mail. I ramble on and on – I get lost in thought.
- I love high places. I can walk on roofs, cliffs, ladders, etc. without a problem. This terrifies my husband.
- I do not like manipulative people. This dislike even extends to characters in books and movies.
- I tell the truth. This makes some people uncomfortable - if you ask, I WILL tell you, but I will do it in the nicest way possible.
- I love to give and receive hugs.
- I love accents. I love to listen to people speak. I also tend to pick up on people’s accents and unknowingly incorporate them into my everyday speaking.
- I wish to be fluent in any foreign language, heck, several foreign languages. At this time I lack the discipline to work hard enough to try.
- I love music, but I do not play an instrument. I would like to play the drums.
- I love to read. I will read almost anything. I love biographies, sci-fi, mystery, horror and fantasy books. Stephen King and Dean Koontz are among my favorite authors.
- I love to play games – board games, card games, video games, word games, trivia games, etc. Consequently, my husband does not like to play games and I am gradually working them in to his life. Before we got our dishwasher we would play air hockey to see who had to manually do dishes. I won most of the time. ;)
- I love to laugh. I laugh loud and if the world isn’t laughing with me it is laughing at me and I don’t care. If you can get me laughing hard enough I bark like a seal. I haven’t laughed that hard in a very long time.
- I am not easily offended.
- I never yell. I have found that yelling never accomplishes anything; I instead lower my voice and acquire a tone. If you get the “tone” you know I mean business.
- Loud and angry men do not intimidate me. Yes, you may try and use your size to get me to back down, but I won’t do it. Don’t make me call the cops.
- My hands have a mind of their own when I’m nervous - they flail about as if detached from my body. I tend to talk with my hands when I am nervous as well.
- My hands find their way to my hair if I am stressed. I have long hair and when this happens it looks really – really weird. Think Einstein but not gray and much longer.
- I love my hair. I highlight it because I’m not too fond of my natural color, it’s some odd shade of blond/brown. I’ve always had blond hair then suddenly POOF its not blond anymore. Sigh. My hair was long – to my waist – until this year. It is now just below my shoulders.
- I love cheese. Except cottage cheese – I can’t get over the lumps. I can only eat it sparingly in recipes, and even then, if I think about it too much I gag.
- I love writing utensils. I make up reasons to purchase new pens and pencils. We don’t ever need them. I have a huge jar and a drawer full of them, yet I’m compelled to buy more.
- I like to eat frozen M&M’s and Rolo’s. I’m sure my dentist would cringe if he knew.
- I once had to wear a retainer. It made me talk funny which embarrassed my mom so she told me not to speak. I didn’t listen.
- I work well under pressure.
- I accept change openly and adapt accordingly.
- I am teachable and correctable.
- I enjoy speaking to older people. They have a lot of insight that I as a youngster do not yet possess.
- I’m a good listener.
- I am uncomfortable talking about my personal feelings. We can talk about your feelings, or situations I’ve been in, but not how I “feel” on any particular subject.
- I hate to cry.
- I am not afraid to speak in front of large groups of people (as long as I know what I’m talking about).
- I am either quiet or really weird with new people.
- I can get along with almost anyone.
- Cans and paper plates beware, I like to shoot guns. Sadly, I do not own one so I do not get to do this very often.
- I love the desert.
- I love to ride horses. I have not ridden in a very long time. When I was young my cousin and I would ride my grandparent’s horses. Once when I was riding “Candy” a dog came by to say hello. Candy did not like dogs so she reared up and took off running. I did not fall off, and I did not require assistance in getting her calmed down again. This did not deter me from riding her again.
- I love sunsets.
- I love looking for “pictures” in the clouds.
- I used to want to be a gymnast. I am still really flexible, and my arms are double jointed.
- I am an audio/visual learner. I am capable from learning from books, but it’s more fun if you'll just tell or show me how to do it. I learn new things very quickly.
- Happy people inspire me, but for some reason I find myself drawn to darker, moodier personalities and attempt to make them smile. I need to stop doing that.
- I am an only child, well, sort of – I acquired 3 step-siblings when my father remarried, but that was when I was 16 and I’m not really sure that counts as I never talk to them, they never talk to me and I never lived with any of them…
- I’ve worn glasses since the second grade. They were actually made of glass and they were very heavy. When I was at home I would roll up toilet paper to stick under the nose and ears to alleviate some of the pain. It looked really stupid.
- I dislike it when people complain incessantly – after the fifth time I will stop listening to you.
- I have a master’s degree that I’m not using or getting paid for.
- I enjoyed college.
- I am a southpaw.
- I carry heavy objects on my head at work. I do not do this for novelty's sake, I do it because it is easier to carry.
- I love to travel. I have never been out of the country. I do not have a passport. I will get one – someday. I used to live 3 hours from the Mexican border and yet I never went to Mexico.
- I do not live in the past. The present is more interesting. I need to think about the future more.
- I do not like it when men think I cannot do a job because I am female. I worked in a garage for my dad once and this old man freaked out because I was changing his oil. It’s an oil change, not brain surgery.
- If I cannot do something I am not afraid to ask for help.
- I dislike frivolous lawsuits. Duh, coffee is hot, did you really need to sue McDonald’s for your own stupidity? Fast food does make you fat, but they don’t make you eat it, or if you eat in moderation, you won’t get fat – don’t blame the food for your sorry self not getting up and getting some exercise.
- I love riding in the car with my husband. We have some of the most fantastic conversations there.
- I once got pulled over for having two license plates on my truck. The officer told me this was against the law. I told him one of the plates was rusted to the truck bed and I couldn’t get it off. He said something about “females” and went to the back of the truck to get it off. It took him 15 minutes while three other cop cars arrived and his buddies made fun of him.
- I love to cook. I love to try new recipes. New is sometimes good, and sometimes it is bad, very bad. I have discovered I hate pesto. It smelled bad, it tasted bad and it upset my stomach. I will never try it again.
- My father used to force me to eat foods I didn’t like. If I wanted to eat a smaller helping of something we could sometimes work out a deal like – stand on one foot and you only have to eat two more bites.
- I feel compelled to eat everything on my plate because I was always told there are starving kids in Africa. I need to eat smaller portions.
- I try to limit myself to one caffinated soda a day. I will break this rule if we eat out.
- I hate cleaning the bathroom.
- I have never done drugs.
- I do not drink. I tried it several times and decided I didn’t like the way it made me feel, and I didn’t like the way it tasted.
- I did not apply myself in high school, I did better in college, I graduated cum laude. I don’t really know I managed that considering I don’t know how to study.
- I enjoy helping people.
- I like new words. I also like following the evolution of new words or new ways to use an old word. For example, instead of saying something was “cool” I started saying things were “fun”. I got a few cocked eyebrows at first, and then watched as different people started using it in sentences.
- I like to build simple websites.
- I wish I were smarter.
- I would love to go back to school for the learning. Maybe just a class or two.
- I do not want to get my doctorate. I enjoy learning and find that I learn better in a classroom situation.
- I have excellent short-term memory – when I am not under stress.
- I love to watch documentaries.
- I love knowing details. This drives my husband nuts!!! He’s becoming accustomed to it though and now remembers things just for me.
- I like to sleep.
- I think too much.
- I talk to myself out loud.
- My phone never rings. Cell or house.
- I am the catcher on a softball team in the spring. I once broke a girls’ nose while warming up at softball practice. It was her fault (she dropped her glove after I let go of the ball), but I felt really bad and cried for two days. She is still my friend.
- I like to play volleyball.
- I like to play bunco. I almost always come home with a prize.
- All of my close friends are older than me by at least 10 years, some even 20.
- Weird things happen to me – a lot.
- I love Muppets. I like Kermit the Frog, Beaker, and The Swedish Chef, but Animal is my absolute favorite.
- I hate to shop for clothes.
- Sometimes, I swear that I'm invisible. Not really, but it's like people see "through me" rather than see me.
- I am not afraid to say "I'm sorry."
Bonus:
102. I can drive a backhoe.
